About Bach Childrens' Chorus
BCC Founder and Music Director, Karla Krogstad |
Founded by its current director, Karla Krogstad, in 1989, the BCC maintains a very busy performance schedule. The Chorus has performed Handel's Messiah with the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. David Fetler, for the past several years. (In addition to English and the Latin of Messiah, the children have sung in many other languages, including Spanish, German, Korean, Russian, Hebrew and French.) The children have performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra/Rochester City Ballet for Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. Other local collaborations have included performances with Greece Choral Society, Mitzie Collins and the Sampler Trio, Eastman Philharmonia, Opera Theater of Rochester, Penfield Symphony, Brighton Symphony, Rochester Bach Festival, and Irondequoit Chorale. Special commission pieces for the Chorus have been featured at several concerts. Every year, the Bach Children's Chorus travels to sing and sightsee, often at historic locations such as Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. Historically, the Chorus was once called the Eastman Bach Children's Chorus.
Ms. Krogstad has her B.M. from New England Conservatory of Music, and Master of Music from University of Connecticutt. She received the 1995 "Friend of Foreign Language" and 1996 "Culture through the Arts" awards from the N.Y. State Assoc. of Foreign Language Teachers. She directs the BCC and the companion Mozart Chorus for younger children. Ms. Krogstad led the chorus to its new "home", in residence at Nazareth College of Rochester, NY in 2001. The chorus is enjoying its relationship with Nazareth's Music Preparatory Department. |
