Chaperone Duty List
Your responsibility is to make sure the children are paying attention to the Director. Here are some suggestions for accomplishing this monumental task:
Place yourself around the room so you are visible to the children. If they think there are eyes on them, they are less likely to talk. Usually some chaperones standing or sitting in the front and some chaperones standing in the back is helpful.
If they do talk, you can feel free to tell them to be quiet.
If they continue to talk, feel free to separate the talkers. They have been warned this will happen, so don’t feel badly about it!
They should not have gum or anything else in their mouths. Please ask them to get rid of it.
The children should not be fidgeting in their seats. If they are, please feel free to tell them to stop.
Unless it is an ABSOLUTE emergency, they are not to leave to go to the bathroom. They can do that at the break.
If you notice a child is consistently not singing, please advise the Chorus Manager so that she can determine why.
For the snack at break time, one or two chaperones need to help with snack, if necessary. There will be times when the Snack Coordinator cannot be there, but will have arranged for snack. Two chaperones need to help set up and serve it in those instances.
Your help may be needed to get them back into the rehearsal room after snack by “rounding” up children.
At the end of the rehearsal, two chaperones are sometimes needed to hand out materials for the day.

CHAPERONE DUTY SUGGESTIONS FOR CONCERTS

BEFORE THE CONCERT WHILE THE CHORUS IS WARMING UP:
Place yourself around the room so you are visible to the children. If they think there are eyes on them, they are less likely to talk. Usually some chaperones standing or sitting in the front and some chaperones standing in the back is helpful.
While they are waiting to warm up, please be sure it’s not a free-for-all. They can talk, but in quiet voices.
There should be no running, jumping or roaming.
If they do talk, you can feel free to tell them to be quiet.
If they continue to talk, feel free to separate the talkers. They have been warned this will happen, so don’t feel badly about it!
They should not have gum or anything else in their mouths. Please ask them to get rid of it.

It is part of your “job” to help line up the children. Generally, they are grouped into their assigned parts----B A C H and lined up according to height. The Chaperone Coordinators or the Chorus Manager will advise you as to the exact line up configuration for on stage.
It is IMPERATIVE that while they are being lined up, there is absolute silence.
While they are lining up, take a look at their uniforms to be sure shirts are tucked in, ties are on straight, etc. If something is amiss with the uniform, tell the child so that she or he can fix it.
It is usually the job of the Chaperone Coordinator and the Manager to walk them onto the stage. If that is the case, then you may go to your own seat and enjoy the concert! At intermission, you should return to the rehearsal hall to help keep the children orderly.
Occasionally, we have the Parent Chaperones accompany the Chorus on stage and sit with them. If that is the case the following applies.
DURING A CONCERT WHILE THE CHILDREN ARE ON STAGE OR WAITING TO PERFORM:
We will have “assigned” seating for you usually at the end of a row of children.
If they do talk, you must get them to be quiet.
If they continue to talk, separate the talkers.
The children should be standing on stage with their hands at their sides. If they are not, without being disruptive get them to do this.
Unless they are sick, they may not to leave the stage (or where they are waiting to perform) for any reason.
All the children’s eyes MUST be on the Director. You need to be sure that they are.
Once the concert is concluded, they must leave the stage in silence and return to the rehearsal room for pick up by their parents. You must be sure they do this.

Chaperones can be either parent or any other responsible adult. If you cannot be there on your scheduled date please make arrangements among yourselves to find someone else to fill your spot. If you have any questions regarding your duties, please refer to the student handbook.

Next
week—is small group
rehearsal.
Practice
coach: Each chorister
needs to have one adult to serve as their practice coach. Coaches
ensure that practice time is adhered to, works with the child to
help them memorize the words to the songs and quizzes them to make
sure that they have mastered the words. Having a coach is crucial
to your child’s success. They can’t do it without you. A coach
should ideally be the same person every time. It is recommended
that your child listen to their music 20-30 minutes a day and pick
one song a day to work on memorizing the words.
Annual
Fall Giving Campaign: Our annual
fund drive kicks of Oct 1st.
This year, an anonymous donor has pledged $2500.00 in matching
funds. That means that when you give a dollar, your dollar is
doubled. Please help us maintain our great program by making a gift
today. Look for more info and a pledge form in the upcoming
newsletter.

Steering Meeting: This week is the
parent steering committee meeting during large group rehearsal. It
will start at 9:45 Doris Ludek will be sharing a project plan and
talking about volunteer opportunities for our Spring Gala. There
will also be time to have any other questions answered. Each
chorister’s family must attend at least one meeting per
year.
Entertainment
Book —last day to order books is Sept 30th.
The chorus is making a higher profit per book this year than last
year. We have an opportunity to raise a significant amount of
money. Please consider trying to sell just one more book. Remember,
there are cash prizes for the top sellers and you will receive one
free book for every eight books you sell.

week—is repertoire
workshop. For the first workshop only,
new choristers must attend
the
10:30 – 11:50 class. A
parent must attend with
them.
Returning choristers should attend
either the
9:00 – 10:20 or 1:30- 2:50 class. Please
try to attend in afternoon if you can, many people must attend
mornings and we do not want more than thirty choristers at any one
workshop.
Fall Schedule—although we made
it as complete as possible, we are planning on adding a WROC
Channel 8 taping to the schedule as soon as it becomes available.
This should occur before Thanksgiving. We will inform you as soon
as they tell us the date.
Uniforms
- Anne Schiro,
uniform coordinator, has ordered ties and cummerbunds for those who
did not get them at camp. She will be available at Sept
30th
large group to
distribute these. Navy blue pleat front uniform pants are
available in the
boys department at
Sears, or from Frenchtoast.com, please refer to your handbook for
complete uniform information.
Entertainment Book —orders can be
filled at rehearsal at large group on the 30th.
Please return either the sample books or turn in money for them by
Sept 30th.
